The introduction of Google Now support will be important, as it brings the popular Android mobile feature to Chromebooks, allowing users to check their notifications, weather and traffic information, news, and appointments in card form. The search bar should also be very useful, as Google’s Francois Beaufort hyped in a recent Google+ post.
“This new launcher is the best way to start new activities on Chrome OS, like performing a Google search or launching apps,” he said. “Search has been enhanced to help you find what you are looking for faster, apps you most often use right have been put at your fingertips, and the power of Google Now has been brought to your Chromebook.” Chrome Launcher 2.0 will arrive in the coming week, but since this isn’t a stable build yet, beta testers should expect a few bugs here and there.
All Chrome OS users can join Google’s Beta channel, simply by clicking on their account picture while logged in as Owner, going to Settings > About Chrome OS, clicking More Info, then clicking on Change Channel. You’ll also have to keep in mind that switching from the Beta Channel to the Stable Channel will require a complete wipe of your machine.
