On Monday, fans of “The Daily Show” were scouring the Internet to find out just who Trevor Noah is. Comedy Central announced Monday that the 31-year-old South African comedian would be replacing Jon Stewart on the long-running series. He had only three segments on the show since signing on as a contributor in December.
He appears to have the chops for the job, having hosted his own late-night talk show back home. Plus, he’s familiar with the stand-up circuit, performing sold-out shows around the world.
But by the end of the day, Noah faced a social media backlash after people came dug up older tweets from 2011 and 2012 — which some are calling anti-Semitic and sexist.
“A hot white woman with a** is like a unicorn. Even if you do see one, you’ll probably never get to ride it,” one tweet read from November 2011.

Twitter users people, including comedian Roseanne Barr, took to the site to chime in on Noah’s older posts; some are even calling for a replacement:
There’s been no word from Comedy Central or Noah yet on the matter.
After Monday’s announcement, Noah tweeted: “No-one can replace Jon Stewart. But together with the amazing team at The Daily Show, we will continue to make this the best damn news show!”
