Now, Google will 'find my phone' if I lose it - Business Standard

It’s a common habit among people to keep their phone somewhere and forget where they did; all of us do that and kick ourselves for being forgetful, till we get our phones back. And that is understandable, considering how important smartphones have become for us — think of the surge in average time we now spend glued to our handsets every day.

In what looks like a very useful tool for such ‘forgetful’ people, and another addition to its ways of making life easier for users, Google has launched a feature that will locate your smartphone for you if you misplace it.

“We’ve all been there — you’ve searched under your car seat, tossed around the sofa cushions and you still can’t find your phone. If you know where your computer is, you can now ask Google to find your Android phone from your desktop,” says a Google+ post.

On the lines of the ‘Find my iPhone’ app on Apple’s iOS, this Google feature lets you locate your Android devices. All you need to do is have the latest version of the Google app on your device. Make sure you are logged in on your device and personal computer with the same Google account and you are good to go. In case you misplace your phone, a mere Google search for ‘find my phone’ will show you on a map where your device is. You also have the option of ringing your device in case it is close by.

This new feature is a value addition to Android’s Device Manager, an app that Google introduced in 2013 to help you manage your device. The app offers more advanced features like resetting the device’s PIN or erasing data on it. In case your ‘find my phone’ search on Google tells you that your phone is at a location that is not secure, you could click on the map to be redirected to the app for using these safety features.
