MLB hot stove: Mets near contract extension with Juan Lagares - NJ.com

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — The Mets appear near a contract extension with center fielder Juan Lagares. Although a deal has not been finalized yet, the two sides are in discussions.

A Yahoo! Sports report says the deal is for four years and $ 23 million, with a fifth year team option for $ 9.5 million or a $ 500,000 buyout for the Mets.

Lagares won the National League Gold Glove last season and is revered for his defense. There have been signs this spring that he is improving as a hitter too after hitting .281 last year, with a .703 OPS.
